It would be a kindness if you'd just send a short note to let
me know who you are, and what your interests are. Thanks.
Network
Broadcasting Overview - A short summary on many
different networks.
A
history of the west coast networks - By John
Schneider
- NBC - The
National Broadcasting Company. (Curiously, the names that
Sarnoff suggested for a broadcast operation in his "Radio Music
Box" memo were the American Broadcasting Company and the Public Service
Broadcasting Company.) NBC is now a mostly defunct division of Westwood One,
the brand name being used mainly on some morning newscasts.
ABC - The
American Broadcasting Company. This was the spinoff from NBC Blue,
when the FCC forced NBC to split in the 1940s. When Edward Noble (Lifesavers
company) bought it, he also bought the name American Broadcasting Company from
George Storer. Now a division of Disney.
CBS
- The Columbia Broadcasting System. Now owned by Viacom.
- MBS
- The Mutual Broadcasting System
