"This is a Gates TE-10 FM exciter. It's the
only one that survives. The TE-10 was the "FM exciter that never was."
The TE-10 was developed after the TE-3. However, management decided not to put
it into production because it wasn't any better or cheaper than the TE-3. The
circuit design was similar to the TE-3, but the mechanical packaging was
different.
Two prototypes were built. Paul Lemson, W9PL, pulled one out of the trash and I
pulled out the other one. Paul eventually junked his, but I still have mine.
Paul was part of the MS-15 team, and was the project engineer for the Harris
FM25K."
