In 1974, Ron Jones founded Circuit Research Labs with his partner Gary Clarkson. A Phoenix radio engineer, Jones was not happy with the audio processing of the day. CRL became noted for equipment that produced "aggressive" processing on both AM or FM.
CRL went public in 1983.
Sadly, Ron Jones died in 1997, and the company lost some of its drive. Eventually the company was purchased and, in 2000, CRL purchased Orban, leading to a de-emphasis of the CRL brand.
